Your First Visit

Your first visit is usually a consultation, where we have a opportunity to meet one another and discuss your health situation. When you make the appointment, we will asked you to use our secure online registration form and complete the "paperwork" beforehand. We will also ask you to send us or bring with you any reports of previous sleep studies that you might have experienced. With obtaining your medical insurance information, we strive to maximize your insurance benefits for you. During our discussion, we will explain what oral sleep appliances are, how they work and may benefit your health, and what expectations you may have from treatment. We will discuss your health risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea and plan accordingly. If you are yet undiagnosied or we have any specific concerns, we will make appropriate referrals to a sleep physician for a sleep study ( polysomnogram ) for proper evaluation. Any questons concerning fees, payments, and insurance coverage will be addressed.

If your sleep physician find you can benefit from an oral sleep appliance and you desire to proceed with treatment, your next visit will be a complete and thorough examination of structures that are impacted by use of on oral appliance: the jaw joints, the muscles, tendons, and ligaments of the head and neck, the bony structures of the jaws, and all oral structures. State of the art medical and dental equipment such as Conebeam CT imaging, Joint Vibration Anlysis with Electrognatholoy, T-Scan occlusal analysis, or other techniques may be utilized so that we can obtain a full understanding of your health condition. Then impressions and bite records are taken for the custom fabrication of the oral sleep appliance.

At the following visit, the appliance is inserted and we will carefully explain the care, use, and maintainance of the appliance. We will then work with you and follow you carefully to achieve your goal of improved sleep, improved quality of life, and improved health. We may evaluate your progress with a home sleep study or have you return to your sleep physician for an additional sleep study. We hope you will see us as a resource in helping you make healthy choices. We intend to be in a relationship with you for a long time so your long-term health is important to us.

Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea is considered a medical, not a dental problem. Therefore, dental insurance will not apply, but medical insurance does!

Medical insurance can be confusing. Many medical insurance companies provide coverage for oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea, but your policy will specify your level of coverage. We have been effectively advocating on our patients’ behalf with insurance companies for years. We look at each patient’s individual needs and help you to obtain the maximum insurance benefits possible.

In our practice we will always make treatment recommendations based on what we believe is in your best interest to improve your sleep and your health. We will help you understand the cost of your treatment so you can make an informed decision about oral appliance therapy. We will also explain how your insurance benefits can help you with the cost of treatment. To that end, we can send a pre-treatment determination of benefits to your insurance company prior to your pursuing treatment. Therefore, we ask that you provide us with medical insurance information when you contact us.

For those without medical insurance or have limited insurance benefits, payment plans with Care Credit are available.
